Sarna New Preschool Director at Educational Alliance

Dr. Michelle Sarna has joined the Educational Alliance as its Preschool Director.? The Educational Alliance Preschool provides high quality early childhood education to families on Manhattan?s Lower East Side, as a Jewish preschool that is open to families of all ethnicities and religions.

?We are thrilled to have Michelle join our team at a pivotal time in our history,? says Robin Bernstein, President & CEO of The Educational Alliance. ?She is a passionate, community-oriented professional with a wide breadth of knowledge of early childhood education.?

?Her experience, background and enthusiasm are a great fit for the Alliance now and in the not-too-distant future when we open our brand new Lower East Side community center ? which will be home to the Educational Alliance Preschool ? in Fall 2013,? Bernstein continues.

Sarna comes to the Educational Alliance with an extensive background in early childhood education and child psychology. She holds an M.A. in Education and a Ph.D. in School Psychology with a focus on early childhood development from Fordham University, and she recently finished a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Tikvah Center for Law & Jewish Civilization at New York University School of Law. Sarna has worked with children and their families in public and private schools, mental health clinics, college campuses, communities and synagogues. A mother of five young children, she also has prior experience as an Educational Alliance Preschool parent, and her children participate in a variety of programs at the Educational Alliance?s 14th Street Y.
Sarna was also recently featured in the NY Jewish Week?s ?36 Under 36? which profiles prominent young professionals in the Jewish community.

?I am excited to join the Educational Alliance and help expand on the agency?s work to engage families from diverse backgrounds in our community,? she says. ?I look forward to leading a team of dynamic and passionate educators and to developing the preschool?s curriculum to integrate progressive educational approaches with universally relevant Jewish values.?
