(AP) ? Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is under observation at a New York hospital after being treated for a blood clot stemming from the concussion she sustained earlier this month.

Clinton's doctors discovered the clot Sunday while performing a follow-up exam, her spokesman, Philippe Reines, said. He would not elaborate on the location of the clot but said Clinton was being treated with anti-coagulants and would remain at New York-Presbyterian Hospital for at least the next 48 hours so doctors can monitor the medication.

"Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion," Reines said in a statement. "They will determine if any further action is required."

Clinton, 65, fell and suffered a concussion while at home alone in mid-December as she recovered from a stomach virus that left her severely dehydrated. The concussion was diagnosed Dec. 13 and Clinton was forced to cancel a trip to North Africa and the Middle East that had been planned for the next week.

The seriousness of a blood clot "depends on where it is," said Dr. Gholam Motamedi, a neurologist at Georgetown University Medical Center who was not involved in Clinton's care.

Clots in the legs are a common risk after someone has been bedridden, as Clinton may have been for a time after her concussion. Those are "no big deal" and are treated with six months of blood thinners to allow them to dissolve on their own and to prevent further clots from forming, he said.

A clot in a lung or the brain is more serious. Lung clots, called pulmonary embolisms, can be deadly, and a clot in the brain can cause a stroke, Motamedi said.

Keeping Clinton in the hospital for a couple of days could allow doctors to perform more tests to determine why the clot formed, and to rule out a heart problem or other condition that may have led to it, he said.

Dr. Larry Goldstein, a neurologist who is director of Duke University's stroke center, said blood can pool on the surface of the brain or in other areas of the brain after a concussion, but those would not be treated with blood thinners, as Clinton's aide described.

Clinton was forced to cancel Dec. 20 testimony before Congress about a scathing report into the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The report found that serious failures of leadership and management in two State Department bureaus were to blame for insufficient security at the facility. Clinton took responsibility for the incident before the report was released, but she was not blamed.

Some conservative commentators suggested Clinton was faking the seriousness of her illness and concussion to avoid testifying, although State Department officials vehemently denied that was the case.

Lawmakers at the hearings ? including Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman who has been nominated by President Barack Obama to succeed Clinton ? offered her their best wishes.

Last Thursday, before the discovery of the blood clot, Reines said Clinton was expected to return to work this week.

The former first lady and senator, who had always planned to step down as America's top diplomat in January, is known for her grueling travel schedule. She is the most traveled secretary of state in history, having visited 112 countries while in the job.

Clinton is considered a front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, although she has not announced plans to run.

Buffalo Bills fire coach Chan Gailey

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) ? Chan Gailey has been fired by the Buffalo Bills after three losing seasons.

The announcement was made Monday, a day after the Bills closed out another disappointing season with a 28-9 win over the New York Jets.

Buffalo finished 6-10, and Gailey leaves with a 16-32 record. There was no immediate word on the status of general manager Buddy Nix.

In a hopeful season after signing star defensive end Mario Williams to a $100 million contract, the Bills reverted to their ways of the past, failing to make the playoffs for a 13th straight year, the NFL's longest active drought.

Gailey met with his players during the team's annual exit meetings and informed at least one of his players that he expected to be fired.

Gailey addressed reporters for a little over a minute, and declined to take questions.

He thanked both Nix and team owner Ralph Wilson for the opportunity, and said he understood the reasons behind the decision. Gailey also announced that his entire staff had been fired.

"I understand this is a business. We didn't get the job done," Gailey said, reading from a Bills pad on which he had jotted down a few notes. "I've been called two other times to get things turned around, was able to do it. We weren't able to get this one done soon enough and I understand that completely."

Gailey's eyes then welled with tears when he credited Bills fans for their loyalty, and Buffalo for being a passionate football city.

"I think that the next staff will have a great opportunity for success, and make this another great football franchise," Gailey said. "This will probably be, and I say probably, but I think it will be the first place that's ever fired me that I'll pull for."

Gailey had at least one more season left on his contract.

It's the latest twirl of the coaching carousel in Buffalo.

The Bills are on their fifth coaching search since Wade Phillips was fired following the 2001 season. Phillips, who took over in 1998 after Hall of Famer Marv Levy retired, was the last coach to get the Bills to the playoffs. That was in the 1999 season, when Buffalo lost the AFC wild-card playoff to Tennessee on a last-second kickoff return, the "Music City Miracle."

Gailey took over in January 2010 after a tumultuous season in which Dick Jauron was fired in November, leaving defensive coordinator Perry Fewell to finish out the season on an interim basis.

It's unclear whether Nix will be overseeing the next coaching search. Nix was at the Bills' facility on Monday.

This was Gailey's second NFL head coaching job. He went a combined 18-16 in two seasons at Dallas before being fired following the 1999 season despite leading the Cowboys to the playoffs each year. He spent six years as head coach at Georgia Tech, where he had a 44-32 record before being fired after the 2007 season.

"It's always disappointing," said defensive tackle Kyle Williams, one of the only players left in the locker room when the team announced Gailey's firing.

What frustrates Williams more is how the Bills keep making changes without getting any results.

"I get tired of losing," Williams said. "More than anything, I get tired of putting in tons and tons of work. And it's hard sitting here talking to you guys at the end of December feeling like another one kind of slipped through your fingers."

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's status is uncertain in part because he's due a $3 million bonus in March. He went 16-29 since taking the starting job three games into the 2010 season. He hasn't lived up to the six-year, $59 million contract extension he signed in October 2011.

Fitzpatrick declined to speculate on his future. After speaking to reporters, Fitzpatrick hugged receiver Stevie Johnson and the two left with Johnson's arm over the quarterback's shoulder.

Noted for being an offensive expert, Gailey failed to revive what's been a perennially poor popgun attack. The offense did show signs of a spark last year, when it finished 14th in the NFL in yards gained. That was Buffalo's best finish since winding up 11th in 2003. The unit, however, regressed this year, and particularly unraveled down the stretch. It finished 19th in the NFL in yards gained, and 21st in points scored.

Ultimately, it was the Bills' poor defensive play that doomed Gailey, though. The troubles were particularly glaring this season, because the defense was supposed to be much improved after signing Williams to a six-year contract in free agency.

The Bills allowed 400-plus points in each of the past three seasons, including 435 this year ? the second-worst total in team history. Buffalo became the NFL's eighth team and first since the 1986 Jets to allow 45 points four times in one season.

The Bills also endured a dreadful two-game stretch in losing 52-28 to New England on Sept. 30 and then 45-3 at San Francisco the following week. They allowed franchise-worst 1,201 yards offense in consecutive games, the most an NFL team's given up in back-to-back games since the New York Yanks gave up 1,227 in two games in 1950.

"It's sickening," running back Fred Jackson said, referring to how the Bills failed to play up to expectations. "As players, we had the highest hopes out of everybody. And for us to fall short of that, we don't like it at all. It's depressing."

Folks, I've been separated for nearly two months and I'm now working on self-improvement.

One area I identified that I need to work on is managing my anger.

My husband would bring out the monster in me. No, I would never throw things or hurt anyone in the process, but I'd drop a few F-bombs here and there and I'd certainly get LOUD.

Thing is, I generally don't have a temper. Most of my friends, even childhood friends, would be surprised if they were told that I have a temper. But I do.

People who know me too well and know how to push my buttons unleash that ugly side of me. My dad, my mom sometimes, and now my husband. I thought my temper problems were done with. That I was just an angry teen. That I'd overcome it. Apparently not.

Thing is, I'd been to individual counseling for an extended period of time before I got married. So I'm not sure that that's the route to go.

Does anyone recommend any self-help books or techniques to calm me down when I sense getting frustrated to the point of losing my cool?

Thanks in advance<3

Keep a record. Ask yourself at the end of each day "Did I remain centered today?" If you can answer 100% yes, mark that day a success. See for how many days you can maintain the streak, then aim to make the next streak longer.

Coffee Amore, thanks for the link.

I read it, but I also dont understand what the alternative is if you're the one being the food police for example.

My husband's weight got out of control and he continued making really unhealthy food choices even though we had discussed the need for both of us to eat better. I noticed when I stopped commenting, I got resentful as I watched him eat burgers/icecream/ oreos, because he didn't care. What's a better way of relaying frustrations, especially when it seems the other person isn't listening?

We both did this to each other, him with how I spent my money, and me, with how he ate/spent his time.

I don't have a lot of experience in this area to be honest. My husband likes to watch what he eats and he's about 10 pounds more than he was in college. I have a sibling though who could lose a lot of weight. The spouse of that sibling has tried everything from talking to getting their kids to talk about weight loss, but so far nothing has happened. The weight just seems to keep piling. You know that old saying "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" ? Same thing applies. You can stock the house with healthy foods, model a healthy lifestyle, talk about clean eating and exercising until you're blue in the face, but you can't ever make someone who does not want to change, change. My sibling with the weight problem says it's not a bother and they're ok with it. I don't think so. I think it's just a facade, but there's nothing more any of us can do other than hope there's an epiphany or crisis (nothing too serious) that will snap them out of it.

The other thing you could do, if willing, is to draw a hard boundary. "I love you but your weight is making me lose attraction for you. If this continues..I will (insert consequence that you intend to follow through on, not just threaten)." There have been countless threads in the General Forum as well as the Men's Forum and Sex Forum on that topic alone so do a search.

Rare California tornado damages greenhouses in Monterey Bay

? National Weather Service
Damage from Saturday's tornado in Watsonville is seen.

One of only 7 tornadoes to hit Bay Area counties over the last decade

A small tornado in Santa Cruz County near Watsonville last Saturday lasted only three minutes but knocked down walls of some greenhouses
and uprooted trees in its path, a spokesman for the National Weather Service
said.

The tornado started as a waterspout on the surface of Monterey Bay at 6:59 a.m., crossed over Sunset State Beach and grew to 20 yards wide with winds reaching 75 mph as it swept east to inland areas, said Logan Johnson, a weather service spokesman in Monterey.

The swirling winds crossed over a large farm, sent fiberglass and plastic sheeting flying off of the walls of some greenhouses and caused the metal support structure of one to cave in and damage crops growing inside, Johnson said.

The twister also blew out fiberglass windows in two other greenhouses and propelled debris into a field 30 to 50 yards from the greenhouses, Johnson said.

The wind sent agricultural cloth in the air, wrapping it around a utility pole, and uprooted several trees on San Andreas Road before ending at
7:02 a.m. just over a mile from where the tornado started, Johnson said.

The tornado, which took place about a mile south of the private Monterey Bay Academy Airport, came from the major storm front that hit the Bay Area last weekend, Johnson said.

The 20-yard width of the whirlwind was "pretty small," Johnson said. "The largest and strongest tornados can be one quarter to a half mile wide."

Tornadoes in the San Francisco Bay Area are fairly rare, but not without precedent, the most recent one occurring up north in Santa Rosa in Sonoma County in March 2011, Johnson said.

The weather service has recorded seven tornadoes in Bay Area counties over the last decade, Johnson said.

Kitayama Brothers Watsonville, at 481 San Andreas Road, the farm in the tornado's path, grows flowers in its greenhouses, including snapdragons, gerbera daisies and hydrangeas, according to Carolyn Do, branch manager of the firm's San Jose office.

Marketing Melodie in 2012: A Year in Review : Marketing Melodie

Posted by Marketing Melodie on Friday, December 28, 2012 ? Leave a Comment?

I can?t believe that I?m actually writing my 2012 year in review because it seems unreal that this year is really coming to an end. Two years ago I began a tradition of writing a year in review at the end of ?the year. I do this to express my sincere gratitude for everything the universe has brought my way. I still have a habit of discrediting my accomplishments. I often focus on what I haven?t yet achieved so this post is also an effort to combat my bad habit. I want to focus on ?my successes, not what I haven?t done.

First I want to I reflect back on the past few years since I turned Marketing Melodie into my full time career. I noticed some patterns throughout the year. In 2010 I made my transition from being an ?employee? to a full time ?entrepreneur?. This was a major break through. 2010 was filled with travel, speaking gigs and an abundance of break through opportunities including getting hired to teach Marketing at Platt College and so many new connections. I will call 2010 my break through year.

Beirut Speaking Engagement

Marketing Melodie Speaking in Beirut, Lebanon 2010

2011 was a change of pace. I was traveling less and speaking less but spending more time organizing, creating systems and solidifying my services and offerings in order to have a strong foundation for monetizing my business. I hosted workshops, charity events and my first webinar. I now had a system for effective prospecting and client management. I also became a certified yoga instructor. Little did I know that my yoga certification would be another tool that would really hold as a strong foundation for my career. I will call 2011 my foundation building year.

Digital Media Now November 2011

Digital Media Now Workshop Novembmer 2011

With everything being so organized, I expected to hit the ground running with my marketing business in 2012. In some ways I did but I also realized that there was so much more that I wanted to learn before?systematizing?everything I do. After all, I left being a full time employee so I could embrace opportunities as they come my way. I?ve spent 2012 learning and exploring. ?I will call 2012 my learning year. I have mastered the art of learning something new everyday so this year is just a reflection of my desire to constantly stay educated to serve as a true resource for those around me.

January always comes as a surprise to me because I never expect it to come so soon. I started the year off with strategically branding my company as a strong force in the Social Media world. I did this in a fun way by jumping on the meme train. I saw a few ?Shit Says? videos that I found humorous. I decided to create one for Social Media titled Shit Social Media Experts say. With the help of my social media friends @jennyjenjen, @iPodschun, @RobotFaith, @ChrisKirkman we made it happen. Although I didn?t get a million YouTube views, the video did allow me to connect with many new people who either work in the social space or are interested in using social media themselves to grow their business.

With my business growing, I decided that I would need some help to accelerate the growth. I took on a new Intern, Stephanie Trinh. I created a ?more structured internship program to ensure my interns are learning through hands on projects. If anyone reading this is interested or knows someone who is interested in a marketing and social media internship, please reach out to me.

I continued on the meme train to brand my company and created 2 occupation memes. To this day, they are some of the most viewed pages on MarketingMelodie.com. My travel bug never completely goes away. When I get the opportunity to travel for business, I embrace it to the fullest. I was hired by AT&T to be one of their brand ambassadors at SXSW which meant an adventure in Austin, Texas. I had an incredible time meeting so many industry leaders, running an awesome social media promotion where I was giving out free phones, enjoying interactive events and even a Third Eye Blind Concert. In general, there was just?so much winning for everyone in Austin. My cousin goes to UT and my mom lives in Dallas so I also got to see both of them while I was on my business trip.

When I left Austin, I took a little detour to my favorite city to visit, Chicago! I used the power of Social Media to explore the entire city of Chicago. My great friend Krissy moved back there so it was the perfect time to visit. I have another cousin who also goes to the Art Institute in Chicago so it was great getting to see her too. I brought the San Diego sunshine to Chicago. During my 4 day stay which happened to fall on St. Patrick?s Day weekend, the weather was amazing. It was 70s and sunny the entire time and go figure, it was raining in San Diego! I did a lot of sight seeing, ate great Chicago food and enjoyed great company. I definitely want to go back to Chicago soon and I already have a list of must sees the next time I?m there.

I connected with the lovely Jennifer Pastiloff on social media and I won her Facebook contest for a ticket to Tadasana Festival! I was able to make social media and yoga unite at Tadasana Festival. This was just the first of many opportunities to combine my two passions.

Earth day is also in April. I love to do whatever I can to create a more sustainable earth. This year I wrote a post where I shared 10 ways to go green at work.?After publishing my post, I received some nice PR coverage by NBC San Diego as they featured my post on their TV news segment.

Foursquare Day also falls in April (4/16- 4 squared is 16!). For the 3rd year in a row I hosted a fun social media meetup around Foursquare. I first hosted Foursquare Day Hong Kong in 2010 when I traveled there on business. In 2011 I hosted Foursquare Day in San Diego at R Gang Eatery and this year I hosted Foursquare Day San Diego again at Osetra. Everyone had fun mingling, checking in to win prizes, unlocking badges and meeting new friends.

I?m always open to opportunities that allow me to enhance my skills. I have known for a few years that San Diego Continuing Education offers free classes on just about any subject you can imagine. I finally got around to signing up for a Photoshop class and am so happy I decided to do so. I wanted to learn Photoshop skills so I could easily crop, resize, edit images on a basic level and that?s exactly what I learned how to do. I even got a student ID that I was told I can use for student discounts. The discount is especially helpful if I want to buy software programs.

After meeting ?Jennifer Pastiloff in April at?Tadasana Festival she invited me up to LA to be a part of her Karaoke Yoga class that was being filmed for ABC. I make a brief appearance singing while practicing yoga on TV! Of course I had to connect it back to marketing and shared with you how to optimize your PR efforts on social media all while doing Karaoke Yoga.

Toward the end of June, I received my favorite Klout Perk ever which was an invite to stay at Terranea Resort for a weekend getaway. I took the Amtrak (for the first time in years) to Irvine, then carpooled up to Terranea to meet the rest of the Klout crew. I explored the entire resort and found so much stuff to do at Terranea but my favorite part was really relaxing at the pool and spa.

After my Terranea getaway I hopped on plane to Seattle, Washington. I visited friends, family, ran around the city like a silly tourist, celebrated my Grandpa?s 87th birthday, ?4th of July?and even set up some business meetings. I hit all the birds ?with one stone. I also took a little detour to my neighboring state Portland, Oregon. I visited many Portland must sees including the famous Powell?s Bookstore, which is definitely ?an amazing place for bookworms. I tried the ever popular Voodoo Doughnuts and a nice view of the city at Portland City Grill. I also attended the Portland Blues festival. I have a theory that I bring the San Diego sunshine wherever I go because the weather was so nice in both Seattle and Portland during my stay.

My two passions are marketing and yoga so I decided to combine them both into my career and teach yogis how to grow their business and make money through marketing and social media. I successfully hosted my first marketing workshop exclusively for yogis?at La Jolla Yoga Center.

I also got my CPR certification! I learned another skill that will help me save lives. I also got the song ?Staying Alive? stuck in my head.

It was time for me to lease a new car. In between my leases, I decided to do a ?No Car in San Diego Challenge?. No car meaning I?m not driving a car of my own. I wanted to see if it was possible to get around in San Diego without my own vehicle. I survived almost 1 month without my own car and the first week I was fortunate enough to be driving the Chevy Volt electric car thanks to the GM PR team, I also drove Car2Go, took Uber and took the bus (which surprisingly was very nice a clean the two times I took it to La Jolla). ?I learned that it is possible to get around San Diego without a car. ?Not having a car was?definitely challenging but there were so many positives that came out of it. I was more strategic about planning out my days, I was healthier and got a lot of exercise because I walked more and I was able to connect with old friends who were nice enough to offer me rides.

As I continued to integrate yoga into my career, I attracted more opportunities to do so. I began teaching regular yoga classes for the YMCA. My full yoga schedule can be found here.

To my absolute astonishment, I found myself on Mandatory.com?s ?20 Hottest Geek Girls of the Internet??list among many super smart, sexy and successful women like Jenna Marbles, my friend Jenn Hoffman (she was on the Apprentice!) and one of my favorite YouTubers,?Natalie Tran. I was extremely grateful for this feature and wrote a thank you post to demonstrate how to optimize PR features.

Professional speaking is something I love doing. I haven?t been speaking much this year, but in 2013 I plan to significantly grow my business through speaking. I really wanted to learn more skills to become a better speaker so I decided to take improv classes through National Comedy Theater. I completed Level 1 and Level 2. The classes were so much fun! I learned how to be quicker in responding to any situation and to have confidence in what I say. I just met so many awesome friends from all walks of life through taking classes here. I highly recommend that everyone take an improv class at some point. In fact, here are 10 reasons taking an improv class will make you happy.

After teaching yoga at the YMCA for a few months, more and more opportunities began to open up for me in the fitness world. I had the honor of teaching a yoga class to benefit breast health awareness for the YMCA La Jolla?s Workout in Pink event. The YMCA also sent me to a training for Bender Barre. I really enjoyed learning to teach a fitness class that?s different than yoga. I?m happy to say that I?m now certified to teach Bender Barre classes. Yep another tool to add on my belt.

I made some more headway with my mission to help Yogis and Fitness professionals grow their business. I hosted my second Digital Media Now for Yogis at the gorgeous Chula Vista Yoga Center. It was part of their Teacher Training and also open to the public. In 2013, my goal is to get my marketing curriculum to be standard for all Teacher Training programs.

I launched my new yoga website and brand, Tao of Yoga. It?s a simple site, but it works. I?m happy to have a place where I can share my thoughts on all things yoga and fitness. I?m also grateful that I have a schedule that?s easy to update so I can invite everyone to my classes.

As you can see, a lot of my business focus shifted from marketing to yoga. I really wanted to create a foundation for my yoga business, which is what I was successfully able to do. I have a website that?s a resource, I teach ?4 consistent yoga classes each week and I?m constantly continuing my own education to become a better instructor. Now that I have my yoga business up and running, I really want to focus on the marketing side of my business again. I will book more speaking engagements, host more digital media now workshops and webinars, and I created a nice referral program for anyone who sends me business for a marketing client. If you know anyone interested in growing their business through effective marketing and social media, please send them my way. You?ll receive a check from me as a thank you!

I celebrated another year with my birthday on December 13th. I like to give out gifts on my birthday. This year I gave everyone 13 happy birthday promotions to enjoy?and had a San Diego themed get together with some friends.

There you have it, my 2012 year in review. If you have some favorite moments of 2012, please feel free to share them with me. Since 13 is my lucky number and we?re gearing up for the year 2013, I?m confident that it will be my lucky year! Thanks to every single person who has read my blog. Whether you read ?one post or read my blog regularly, I sincerely appreciate it. Here?s to a happy, healthy and prosperous new year everyone!
