Disaster relief work
The HSUS has deployed more than 30 staff and volunteers to help pets impacted by hurricane Sandy. We are doing damage assessments and rescue in New Jersey and New York for animals left behind or stranded because of the storm, and we are helping to run two shelters, caring for nearly 200 animals?helping relieve many weary pet owners as they begin to rebuild their lives and homes.?
Please help animals and?families affected by Sandy with an emergency donation to our Disaster Relief Fund??

New York City hotline: 347-573-1561
New Jersey hotline: 855-407-HSUS
The shelter in Nassau County, N.Y. was moved to a new location to increase capacity, and?we are now caring for more than 100 animals there.?
The HSUS is fielding hundreds of calls from its call center to help animals as a result of Hurricane Sandy.?The Sandy Pet Rescue Hotline (855-407-HSUS) for New Jersey residents was announced by Governor Christie?s Office and is on his website.?
Yesterday we assisted three families with their pets and took in six animals for whom we will care until their families are able to recover and be reunited with their pets.?
In many of the impacted areas of New Jersey, we are working with local volunteers and officials to help distribute our hotline flyers and critically needed pet food.
Typical of any disaster, we are finding that the animal needs fully expose themselves a few days after the full impact of the storm, and we are ready to increase our response as needs grow.
Your donation will help us to continue our life-saving work to help pets and pet owners in this and other disasters.
Please make an emergency?donation to our Disaster Relief Fund?to help Sandy animals, families ?
