Richmond wheelchair rugby star scores four goals for Canada

Richmond, B.C.'s Ian Chan scored four goals for Canada in wheelchair rugby, as they beat Belgium, 58-50, on Day 8 of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England.

Canada now sits at 1-1 in pool play in wheelchair rugby, after they lost to Australia the day before.

"It felt amazing to come out strong against such a tough opponent," said Chan. "We're a little bit disappointed after our loss yesterday, but it was nice for our team to really gather around and pull for each other and really come out strong in today's game."

Canada will play Sweden in their final game of group play on Friday. There are eight teams in the wheelchair rugby tournament.

In the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, Canada finished in third, receiving the bronze medal. It's best-ever Paralympic result was in 2004 in Athens, when it won silver.

Wheelchair rugby was actually first invented in Canada in 1976 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was then called murderball, a famous term which it is still largely known by, although it is called "quad rugby" in the United States.
