The LA Times reported this week that a California member of Congress will empower consumers to ?unlock? their cell phones. Here?s their story.
Anna Eshoo (D-Palo Alto) told the Times she will introduce a bill that will kill the current ban that angers consumers who want to sell their phones or move easily to another provider when they move or make other lifestyle changes.
What does ?unlocking? mean? It means consumers can purchase a phone from one carrier and later switch to service from another carrier. Currently, it?s illegal to unlock their phones without the approval of their current service provider.
Earlier this week, the White House embraced lifting the ban, too.
