People sat up and noticed when the Garmin Nuvi 3790T GPS hit the market last year because of its fantastically small profile. This however is still a full function GPS unit and the average consumer will find it able to easily handle just about any need. This ongoing trend of the micro-design has been popular for many years and not just limited to GPS units. You might say that when it comes to ultra-slim design, that the GPS units haven?t been on top of the game. There are so many features and functions in the GPS unit, it is really hard to think of what might be around in three to five years. We will have to wait and see what awaits in the future as the Nuvi 3790T may push things in a new direction. Whether or not you?re acquiring something for global positioning or for auto ship you must see to it which you invest in high quality.
With people looking for more ways to personalize their ?tech gear? the 3790T allows them to do just that by using the myTrends feature. This feature allows you to record your daily travel patterns. You can also use it to compare different routes to common places you travel. But why would you even need to use this feature for places you?re familiar with? This feature can be turned off very easily. Some people are just excited that their GPS is capable of doing such a thing. While it may not be for everyone, people in need of frequent rescue from traffic jam nightmares find that myTrends can be very useful.
Another standard that the Nuvi 3790T offers along with the City Navigator? NT is the SUNA Traffic Channel that has a valid life subscription. A consequence of creating such a low-profile design is that evidently there wasn?t any room left for a FM receiver. You need the receiver to get the traffic updates from SUNA. Since the FM receiver is in the charge unit, you will need to have it. But the charger is a mobile device so at least you can get traffic updates while on the road. It also has Bluetooth capability so that you can make hands-free phone calls. Think about experimenting with the device first because it seems that the microphone is the last thing that gets installed and rarely is it the best quality of mic on the market. So for instance, if you are driving on the primary road to go to auto shipping quote, you must take into account having a good GPS at hand.
Environmentally conscious consumers can also appreciate the new Garmin GPS unit. The ecoRoute feature allows users to discover the route that will provide the greatest fuel savings of all routes that are available. This feature can also give you important details about your own fuel consumption. With two small pieces of information this unit can reveal a lot about your own fuel needs. There are other reasons to consider ecoRoute even if you aren?t interested in saving the planet as you can also use this to calculate fuel costs for your trip.
The newest offering by Garmin, the Nuvi 3790T, reveals that things are looking good for the future of GPS. It?s not just the smaller size that?s a hit with users but also the sleek new design that makes this unit a real winner. Of course the Garmin name has become almost synonymous with hand-held GPS units and various marine electronics. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and apply the above tips to buy the proper auto tranport quotes GPS.
ScienceDaily (Sep. 7, 2011) ? Researchers are making progress in creating digital transistors using a material called graphene, potentially sidestepping an obstacle thought to dramatically limit the material's use in computers and consumer electronics.
Graphene is a one-atom-thick layer of carbon that conducts electricity with little resistance or heat generation. After its discovery in 2004 -- which earned a Nobel Prize in physics -- it was touted as a potential replacement for silicon, possibly leading to ultrafast devices with simplified circuits that might be less expensive to manufacture.
However, graphene's luster has dulled in recent years for digital applications as researchers have discovered that it has no "band gap," a trait that is needed to switch on and off, which is critical for digital transistors.
"The fact that graphene is a zero-band-gap material by nature has raised many questions in terms of its usefulness for digital applications," said Purdue doctoral student Hong-Yan Chen.
Electrons in semiconductors like silicon exist at two energy levels, known as the valence and conduction bands. The energy gap between these two levels is called the band gap. Having the proper band gap enables transistors to turn on and off, which allows digital circuits to store information in binary code consisting of sequences of ones and zeroes.
Chen has led a team of researchers in creating a new type of graphene inverter, a critical building block of digital transistors. Other researchers have created graphene inverters, but they had to be operated at 77 degrees Kelvin, which is minus 196 Celsius (minus 320 Fahrenheit).
"If graphene could be used in digital applications, that would be really important," said Chen, who is working with Joerg Appenzeller, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and scientific director of nanoelectronics at Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center.
The Purdue researchers are the first to create graphene inverters that work at room temperature and have a gain larger than one, a basic requirement for digital electronics that enables transistors to amplify signals and control its switching from 0 to 1.
Findings were detailed in a paper, "Complementary-Type Graphene Inverters Operating at Room-Temperature," presented in June during the 2011 Device Research Conference in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Thus far graphene transistors have been practical only for specialized applications, such as amplifiers for cell phones and military systems. However, the new inverters represent a step toward learning how to use the material to create graphene transistors for broader digital applications that include computers and consumer electronics.
To create electronic devices, silicon is impregnated with impurities to change its semiconducting properties. Such "doping" is not easily applicable to graphene. However, the researchers have potentially solved this problem by developing "electrostatic doping," which makes it possible for graphene inverters to mimic the characteristics of silicon inverters.
Electrostatic doping is induced through the electric field between metal gates, which are located 40 nanometers away from graphene channels. The doping can be altered by varying the voltage, enabling researchers to test specific doping levels.
"This will allow us to find the sweet spot for operating the device," Chen said.
Further work will be needed to integrate the prototype into a working graphene circuit for digital applications.
The research is based at the Birck Nanotechnology Center in Purdue's Discovery Park.

Here?s a really simple way to unleash your genius for creative thinking.
Let?s call it notebooking because it involves getting a notebook and jotting down the thoughts and observations that meander through your mind during the day.
Go to your local supermarket or corner store and grab yourself a handy little notebook. It should be small enough to easily slip into your coat pocket or handbag. I?ve got one that has a little elastic band attached to it that slips over the front cover and keeps it secure when I am carrying it around.
You?ll also need a pen or pencil that you can carry easily, like a Bic.
Okay. So your task is to start jotting down your observations? and your goal to get you in the habit of doing this, is to write 30-50 things down a day. You can do more, but don?t do any less ? at least to begin with. Now don?t worry, although this may sound like a lot, you are really just making fleeting notes.
The fact is that great ideas pass through your head all the time, and you entertain them without really being fully conscious of them? you just don?t recognise the value of them and it is so easy to forget them and lose them forever.
With your notebook you will capture these ideas. But your focus is also upon observation.
So, you might be walking along the sidewalk and suddenly notice a dandelion that has pushed up between the cracks of the paving slabs ? and you are
hit by that ?bright defiant splash of yellow? that contrasts so vividly against the dirty grey paving ? so you whip out your notebook, and write down something like:
Dandelion, bursting through the prison walls, bright defiant splash of yellow
? or whatever your particular observation about it is.
What you are doing is:
1. Training your mind to be more observant
2. Telling your mind that these observations and thoughts are important to you (important enough for you to note them down)
3. Providing a sense of inner space for ideas to flow and an inner security that you will recognise them and acknowledge them by writing them down.
The results this practice will have on you:
You will become more observant
Your intelligence will increase because you are capturing more information, becoming sharper and making more neural connections
Ideas will stream into your mind on a regular basis
Your creativity with words and images will definitely increase
The best times to practice notebooking:
All the time!
When going for a walk (or run, but its harder to notebook running!)
When deliberately focussing on a particular creative challenge ? your observations may seem completely unrelated to your challenge at first but press on? the brain has its own mystery and you?ll never fully understand the way it makes creative associations.
Creative thinking through notebooking is a great technique for generating ideas ? for art, for music, for writing, for business, for profit, for life!

KISSIMMEE ? As Kattia Graham is quick to note, one of the great things about spending time with your grandparents is the rich wealth of information they have about the family?s history. ?We are big believers in taking as much knowledge and as many of these memories and these histories that our elders hold,? Graham said. ?They are the ones who know more, and have experienced more, and they have a first hand perspective of what?s happening, and how things are happening. I don?t think that compares to what you read in books.? Graham has a particularly strong interest in history ? specifically, Osceola County?s history. She?s the program director at the Osceola County Historical Society, which hopes to unite grandparents and their grandchildren in a day of fun, celebration ? and, yes, a little history, too. The Spence-Lanier Pioneer Village, which the Historical Society runs, will be celebrating Grandparent?s Day on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the village at 750 N. Bass Road in Kissimmee. Grandparents get in free that day with a paid child, and there will be plenty of events to take advantage of ? live music, square dancing, a barbeque, crafts and more. It?s being held in conjunction with National Grandparents Day, which is held on the first Sunday after Labor Day. ?We have been wanting to do this event for quite a while, and this year we were hesitant because it would be on September 11,? said Graham, a reference to the date of the devastating terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. in 2001. ?But we?re focusing on the positive side of life, and we decided to throw this event anyway,? she added. ?It?s a first time for us.? It makes sense for a historical society to celebrate Grandparent?s Day, she said, because they have so much wonderful knowledge about history ? the history of the region, of the state, and, of course, of their own family. That?s why the historical society plans to bring in volunteers from its genealogy lab to work with the grandparents and kids alike on a unique project that day. ?We have a few volunteers who have done work at our genealogy lab, and they are going to work with the kids on this project,? she said. ?There are going to be a few questions we want them to ask, and we?re going to encourage the kids to ask more and open a dialogue between them and their grandparents. We?re trying to do a family event, and make it very accessible, very affordable, but at the same time one that?s in keeping with our mission of preserving history. We want to call this the Legacy Project, where we teach the kids how to interview their grandparents and create a family history book.? Beyond that history, the day also offers fun for all ages, she added. ?Besides that, we are going to have our musicians,? she said. ?They are volunteers for the society, and they play at all of our events. They have a lot of history in terms of local music, and this is a volunteer run event. ?We?re going to have a few vendors, and everything there will be based on family activities,? she added. ?We?re going to have square dancing, workshops, craft stations, and all kinds of games. We?re also going to have a pioneer portrait with the grandparents and their kids, and the Osceola County Council on Aging will share information on its Meals on Wheels program and Adopt a Grandparent program, and all of our craft stations are based on stuff that will go into the family histories.? ?It sounds really nice, and interesting,? said Carmen Carrasquillo, the chief operations officer at the Council on Aging. ?We collaborate with anybody and all ages here in Osceola County. We do for each other and help each other out.? The Osceola County Historical Society is committed to preserving the county?s history for future generations to enjoy. They have four historic structures that make up the Historic Pioneer Village, including an original Cracker house from 1889. Everything inside the buildings is original to those structures. Pregnancy is a life-changing event which in some cases may trigger domestic violence.
It is still widely considered inappropriate in maternity units to inquire about possible domestic violence.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE can sometimes begin with pregnancy, according to researcher Marianne Notko of the University of Jyv?skyl?. ?It?s alarming that just when one would expect everything to be going well in the relationship, violence can occur.? As several international studies have also shown, pregnancy and childbirth do not provide a guarantee against physical abuse within a relationship.
While carrying out her study, Notko was surprised by the scale of the taboo within the healthcare profession on violence experienced by pregnant women. When carers were asked to distribute questionnaires to expecting mothers on experiences of violence they might have had in an intimate relationship, some of the carers refused. ?They considered it prurient in that phase of a woman?s life,? Notko says. Fears of offending the patient generally turned out to be unwarranted, however ? respondents were usually grateful to have been asked. Victims of violence are given the opportunity to meet with social workers and psychiatric professionals in the hospital.
A difficult phase
The study showed that almost four hundred pregnant women treated at the Central Hospital of Central Finland in Jyv?skyl? have experienced physical abuse within an intimate relationship. Nearly one-third of respondents had experienced kinship violence at some stage in their lives. Of this proportion, a few per cent were ongoing victims of psychological, sexual or other physical violence or other abuse at the time the study was carried out. It was later noticed within the hospital?s gynaecological clinic that more women coming for treatment have experienced violence.
Project manager Minna Juutilainen says that as much as 40 per cent of the women coming for treatment reported having been victim of domestic violence. According to researchers, the onset of violence within a relationship is often related to many conflicting feelings that accompany impending parenthood. The nature of the relationship changes, and having children brings its own tensions. ?Fatherhood can trigger many things relating to the man?s own life that are not very well noticed here. We tend to focus only on the woman?s wellbeing,? Juutilainen explains.
Men often react physically to difficult emotional experiences, and the reaction can sometimes take the form of violence. Violent behaviour within a relationship usually begins suddenly. ?It is rare that violence is present in a relationship from the very beginning.? It is also hard when choosing a partner to assess whether he or she will be violent, as violent partners come from a wide variety of backgrounds. One characteristic that can be a predictor of future problems is a strict conception of gender roles.
Violence and gynaecological disorders
Victims make more frequent use of health services than others.
?Headaches, back pains and even heart problems can be symptoms of the poor state of health and wellbeing associated with victims of domestic violence,? says Adjunct Professor Juha Holma of the University of Jyv?skyl?. Relationship violence has been shown to contribute to an especially large proportion of gynaecological problems, according to Juutilainen.
The study also revealed that care staff are not always able to spot victims of violence as well as they think they are. In many cases, incidents of violence are only revealed by direct questioning.

MONTERREY, Mexico ? Nuevo Leon state launched a new offensive Wednesday against the proliferation of gambling halls as a top politician's brother was videotaped taking wads of cash inside a casino days before a casino fire killed 52 people.
Nuevo Leon Gov. Rodrigo Medina announced initiatives to ban new betting operations and to better regulate existing ones, as well as a corruption probe into Jonas Larrazabal, brother of Monterrey Mayor Fernando Larrazabalwho was caught on videotape visiting several unidentified casinos and being handed large amounts of money.
The newspaper Reforma, which published the images Wednesday, estimated that one wad of cash passed in a cell phone box was 400,000 pesos ($32,000). Mayor Fernando Larrazabal said that he supports the probe.
"First of all, the people voted for Fernando Larrazabal, and I'm not responsible for my brother's actions," he said. "I will ask the prosecutor to investigate and bring whoever is responsible to justice."
Gunmen entered the Casino Royale in Monterrey last Thursday, spread gasoline and set the building on fire, trapping and asphyxiating dozens of gamblers and employees in what's believed to be a case of extortion. Most of the victims were women playing bingo and slots or lunching that afternoon.
The five suspects arrested so far confessed to being part of the Zetas drug cartel. Authorities says they are searching for seven others, as well as the owner of the casino, who is believed to be in the United States.
It was the worst attack related to drug violence on civilians since President Felipe Calderon launched his crackdown on organized crime in 2006. At least 35,000 people have died in drug violence since then, according to government figures, though other sources put the number at 40,000.
Calderon declared three days of national mourning after the casino attack.
Medina also said he will push for changes in federal law so that no concession is granted for a casino without the approval of state and local authorities.
Larrazabal said the Casino Royale and 12 more of Monterrey's 29 casinos violated municipal laws but were allowed to remain open after obtaining federal court injunctions.
